Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971663 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary. 49 pages. Musicart Publications #5992083. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971663). Beyond the Sky. Flute trio (1st doubling piccolo and 3rd doubling alto flute). Duration, 13 minutes.1. Black Hole (3 min. 45 sec.)2. A Crescent Moon, 1969 (3 min. 45 sec.)3. SETI Ratio (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) (2 min.)4. Quantum Waltz (3 min. 30 sec.)The score and parts in this edition are arranged to be printed double-sided, with correct page turns.Beyond the Sky is a celebration of space exploration and imagination. It is in many respects a symphonic work for flute trio, with the characteristics and order of the four movements resembling the structure of a classical symphony. As a child during the Space Race, I was immensely interested in both terrestrial- and extraterrestrial-exploration, and as I composed this music a half-century later it made the most sense to set the musical ideas in this manner. In the first movement, Black Hole, two contrasting themes are presented and immediately developed: a theme of polyphonic gestures, with a contrasting second theme of chordal-textured music. The characteristic and somewhat liquid sound of the flute trio in the second theme is especially evident. The static and evolving blocks of music represent the gravitational collection of matter by a black hole. The second movement, A Crescent Moon, 1969, celebrates astronaut Neil Armstrong's moonwalk in July 1969. This slow, lyrical movement possesses a nocturnal quality while features the alto flute as a solo instrument. The third movement, SETI Radio (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence), is a slow through-composed scherzo. With piccolo, a high tessitura of the flute trio range is heard. The fourth movement is a dynamic Rondo Variations form. Quantum Waltz is just that, a small waltz where the music is developed with a recurring first section, alternating between new material.– Jeffrey HooverJeffrey Hoover's compositions- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the Universal Edition/SMP Press Contemporary Composition Award, the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships and more than 20 commissions. He is a member of the ACME roster of Mu Phi Epsilon, recognized for distinguished achievement as a composer. One unique aspect of Hoover’s work is when he combines composition with his paintings, creating synergetic art that intrigues and captivate audiences and performers alike. His paintings are seen in exhibitions and in concerts where his paintings are projected while musicians perform his music. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971660 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary. 30 pages. Musicart Publications #5992037. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971660). Garage Sale Llama is for Bb clarinet and Eb Alto saxophone (or Eb baritone saxophone). Duration, 5 min. 30 sec. Garage Sale Llama is a humorous and energetic duo for clarinet and saxophone. About 2/3 of the way into the music, there is an optional narrative that the clarinetist can speak. The score and parts in this edition are arranged to be printed double-sided, with correct page turns.Program NoteA conversation recently overheard at a grocery store: 'Why do you go to garage sales? What do you buy at garage sales?' 'Anything and everything!' 'Anything, really? What about... a Llama? Would you buy a Llama at a garage sale?' 'Well?... Yes!... I'd buy a llama.'It was at a holiday party I had a close encounter with a garage sale llama. 'True story. The llama was in the back yard of the neighbor's house where the party was being held. Having a llama in the neighbor's backyard is wild, but to hear how the neighbor acquired the llama at a garage sale is unimaginable! Even Hollywood could not come up with such a tall tale. – Jeffrey HooverJeffrey Hoover's compositions- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the Universal Edition/SMP Press Contemporary Composition Award, the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships, and more than 25 commissions. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971665). Of Water, Sand, and Time (Postcards from the Indiana Dunes) was commissioned by Vanessa Porter, violinist, for National Park Compositions. For solo violin, the work represents the natural beauty of the Indiana Dunes National Park on the shore of Lake Michigan in Northern Indiana. https://nationalparkcompositions.com Each of the seven movements depicts some aspect of the Indiana Dunes. Where Northern Indiana and Lake Michigan come together, the Indiana Dunes is a place where wildlife, geography, and human history amplify each other. While there is an order to the work, the performer is free to rearrange the number and order of movements in performance a given performance, to meet time limitations if necessary. The title of each movement is like a few works written rapidly on the back of a picture postcard and sent to a friend. The score of this edition is formatted to be printed double-sided, with correct page turns.Jeffrey Hoover's compositions- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the Universal Edition/SMP Press Contemporary Composition Award, the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships, and more than 25 commissions. Steel ringing in rhythm to voices, the sound of metal slicing through wood in all its sweetness. A hot brilliant mid-day sun on the street. Ducking into the doorway, then tuning the piano. It must be a special day.The clock and church bell sounding in unison, the end of Tuesday’s labor.Humidity saturates El Tropicano, with the upright piano and a half-glass of amber. The piano montuno and bass tumbao, along with a half-complete catch of drums telegraph out the rhythms for the Casino dancing. Tall ivory women and shorter browner men in white hats, moving across the floor. ‘Still time for one more dance. Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971646 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 27 pages. Musicart Publications #4325189. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971646). This is an 11 x 17 PDF download SCORE for large wind ensemble. A standard Grade 5 work, The Gates of Madrid is inspired by two things found at the heart of Madrid's civic identity: historic stone and iron gateways (such as the Puerta de Hierro from the 18th Century) and Spanish Flamenco music. In this beautiful and challenging composition, the music unfolds as two arching sections, similar in character to a Flamenco song, with shifting meter and contrasts in harmony, dynamics, and tone color. As one takes this musical walk through the streets of Madrid old fanfares are heard, contrasting the intimate Flamenco-like melody that is developed. The Gates of Madrid concludes with a triumphant fanfare. Band performance parts are available on rental: please contact musicart.publications.editor@gmail.com for further information. Flute Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971639 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 9 pages. Musicart Publications #4102953. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971639). For solo (unaccompanied) flute. In three movements, total duration 7:45. Concerto in Horror is inspired by HP Lovecraft's writing in the science fiction-horror genre 1. Angles in Dreams ( The Dreams in the Witch-House), 2. Dark City (about Arkham), and 3. Unspeakable! (The Call of Cthulhu). The playing techniques include both traditional and extended techniques for expressive purposes: harmonics, flutter tongue, residual tones, multiphonics, and altered fingers. HP Lovecraft (1890-1937) wrote numerous works set in rural Western Massachusetts, in settings he imaginatively created and used throughout his writing career. His writings were highly influential in the early 20th century and have enjoyed a resurgence of popularity. Flute,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971652 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 35 pages. Musicart Publications #4797933. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971652). In three movements, Romantic Sonata - Poems of Light (flute and piano) communicates how light can be a metaphor for the emotional and spiritual aspects of life. There are also three paintings - also created by the composer - joining hearing with sight as a poetic way of understanding ideas and emotions.Of Light and Shadow possesses a monothematic sonata design (rather than a two-theme structure), with a primary musical theme that is developed, and a brief closing section. Colors in the Clouds, the second movement of the work, does not differ greatly in tempo from the first movement, but rather is more relaxed in character. A slower middle section of this movement explores tone color through expressive use of extended techniques for the flute. Prism of the Heart is variation of the classical chaconne, with an introduction and a closing section. The conclusion of the first movement is developed and becomes the closing section of the third movement. This connects the first and third movements, bringing one back to where one started, yet experiencing change after the musical journey. The score and flute part in this edition are arranged to be printed double-sided, with correct page turns, directly from the PDF. Jeffrey Hoover's compositions- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships and more than 20 commissions. In the music and connected art forms, the ideas of creative energy and transformation are explored in sound, images, words, and movement.Jeffrey Hoover's work- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -has received recognition through the prestigious Trieste prize, the Luigi Russolo composition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships, and more than 20 commissions. Whether making interdisciplinary works, or traditional stand-alone sonic or visual art, Hoover shapes his work through inner vision and practical experience. Jeffrey Hoover’s background as a performer includes both classical and jazz music, as saxophonist and conductor. His book The Arts and Society: Making New Worlds is published by Kendall Hunt Publishing. Jeffrey Hoover was born on September 11, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana. He holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts (Composition and Interdisciplinary Fine Arts) from Texas Tech University, as well as a M.M. and Bch.Sc. from Ball State University. In the passage addressing the attributes of love (in Greek - Agapē: the spiritual love between God and people), Paul shares several analogies and summarizes his thoughts on the nature of spiritual love: Three things will last forever: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love. Musicart Publications #5370875. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971654). Abundance is a musical work about quality of life, composed by award-winning American composer Jeffrey Hoover. It is a fantasy in three movements. Sand Dance, Blue Dream of Astor, and North of the Beach all seek to capture the mood of exotic locations, places that are far from the mundane. Sand Dance is a dance of give-and-take, a dance of playfulness and life. Blue Dream of Astor is in reference to Astor Piazzolla, the Argentine classical composer who was inspired by the music of Tango, creating a lifetime of work rooted in Tango's sounds and rhythms. North of the Beach points one to a different location than what may be expected by a tourist. While visiting the beach may be the goal initially, north of the beach may be ultimately more rewarding to explore as part of a personal adventure. The score and parts in this edition are arranged to be printed double-sided, with correct page turns.Jeffrey Hoover's compositions- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the SMP Press Contemporary Composition Award, the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications, fellowships, and more than 25 commissions. Musicart Publications #4367746. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971649). Inner Rhythm (six small paintings) for solo mandolin or violin is inspired by a series of six pastel chalk paintings of the same title by the composer. (Duration, 9 min. 45 sec. in performance) With Inner Rhythm, the music parallels the visual gestures and textures seen in the paintings. The pitches of the melodies are related to the visual color of the paintings. In a similar way that the eye tracks or views the paintings, the music of Inner Rhythm is heard in time. The development of the music follows an organic development, the melody moving like the gestures in the paintings. Images of the paintings are available directly from the composer to project during the performance if desired.Jeffrey Hoover's compositions- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships and more than 20 commissions. Instrumental Duet Harp,Instrumental Duet,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971641 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary,Spiritual. Score and parts. 14 pages. Musicart Publications #4270425. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971641). Duration: 5 min. 45 sec. Appropriate for recitals, concert performances, and worship services. In biblical literature, Archangel Uriel is a divine messenger from God, bringing knowledge to the people while serving as a protector of truth. Uriel's providence is set in light, truth, and wisdom. Uriel is a patron of poetry, associated with repentance, and is one of the archangels who stand in the presence of God. In some traditions, Uriel stands at the entrance to the Garden of Eden, with a fiery sword, preventing Man's return to that paradise on Earth. Uriel is the angel who came to Earth and warned Noah of the Great Flood to come. Uriel also spoke to the biblical prophet Ezra on behalf of God, teaching and answering a series of questions Ezra posed to God. Uriel is associated with several literary and artistic works, notably depicted in Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting The Virgin on the Rocks. In this painting, Uriel is shown along with Mary (the mother of Jesus), with Jesus and John the Baptist presented as young toddlers. The composition Uriel makes use of two modal scales to create melodic and harmonic tension and resolution: an altered E Phrygian scale (with a lowered 6th step of the scale) and an altered C Lydian (with a lowered 6th and 7th scale step). The Phrygian scale brings a dark minor quality to the sound, in contrast to the Lydian scale's major yet veiled quality. Set in an unfolding three-part form, the music invokes a blurred and sometimes mystical atmosphere for the listener. Jeffrey Hoover's compositions- music for soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships, and more than 20 commissions. Hoover was born on September 11, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971651). Winner of the 2019 SMP Press Contemporary Composition award, Wu Xing - Sonata for Five Elements (5 movements, 15 min. 30 sec) was composed by Jeffrey Hoover for Yusheng Li, who initiated the first professional university saxophone degree in China. A work for alto saxophone and piano, Wu Xing reflects a fusion of American and Chinese musical aesthetics and compositional techniques. Each movement represents an element in the traditional Wu Xing generative cycle. Musical elements of one movement carry into the next, in the same way these traditional Chinese elements evolve into the next: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. The fourth movement, Metal, is for unaccompanied saxophone, and includes extended techniques including microtones, multiphonics, and altered tone colors. As with other compositions by Jeffrey Hoover, Hoover has also created a series of paintings that visually interpret the music: Dancing in the Trees, The Ancient Lance, The Dragon's Creation, Temple Bells and Swords, and Life of the Earth. In the way the music is a fusion of American and Chines techniques, the paintings incorporate the Wu Xing philosophy approach. Images of the paintings may be projected during performance and are available directly from the composer.Jeffrey Hoover's compositions- music ranging from soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships and more than 20 commissions.
